We run 2 onsite training programmes
Now taking bookings for our free courses starting in September
“Gardening can boost our mental health”
If you are an unemployed adult living with mental health challenges, you can sign up for one of our courses starting in September. You will learn a variety of gardening techniques in a professional and supportive environment.
Course 1
Level 1 City & Guilds in practical horticulture
Starts Wednesday 9th September 2026
Wednesdays 10am-1pm for 12 weeks.
This is an accredited course with no previous experience necessary.
Course 2
How to be a Self-employed Gardener.
Starts Friday 11th September 2026
Fridays 10am-1pm for 10 weeks.
This classroom-based course with some practical sessions will equip you with the skills you need to start out as a self-employed gardener, doing basic garden maintenance tasks. We recommend some previous knowledge and experience of horticulture. We also advise you to take on a placement with our Urban Gardeners scheme whilst doing the course.
Preferred age for enrollment 18-25 and not in education, employment or training.

Supported work placements – we now have spaces on a Friday afternoon 1.30pm-4pm
For adults who are unemployed and aiming to get back into work or progress into further education, we offer 3 month supported work placements in our garden centre. Trainees receive excellent support and training in plant knowledge and customer care. This programme is run by our training co-ordinator Sophia Rowe who also teaches the level 1 and 2 courses in practical horticulture. For more information please email Sophia on [email protected]
