Training
Therapeutic horticulture –
This programme is delivered by our charity partner, Grow for Life, and is mainly aimed at people with mental health issues such as anxiety, depression and social isolation. The 3-hour group sessions, delivered by trained experts, help people develop skills in horticulture, improve their confidence and make new friends. If they feel ready to move on, people can enrol on our free City & Guilds programme and get a recognised qualification in practical horticulture.
Supported work placements –
For people who are unemployed and aiming to get back into work or further education, we offer 3-6 month supported work placements in our garden centre. Trainees receive excellent support and training in plant knowledge and customer care. This programme is run by our experienced Manager, Matt Smail, who set up the Grow Yourself social enterprise 5 years ago to help young people get back into work and training.
If you, or someone you know, would like to find out more about either of these programmes please get in touch.

Our main aim...
...and the reason we created The Urban Garden, is to help people with mental health issues/other life challenges to gain confidence, improve their wellbeing, and move further towards work and education.
